There is no better time in France than dinner time! Local families eat out, and children are always welcome in the wonderful pavement cafes and restaurants that abound in Provence. Try Bouillabaisse, the classic seafood stew made with an assortment of fish and shellfish, tomatoes, garlic, saffron, herbs, wine and olive oil. Ratatouille is another local favourite, a Provencal vegetable stew that is popular all along the Mediterranean coast. It is a summer dish, best when the vegetables are in season and at their peak. For night life, Aix, Uzès and Bagnols have bars and night clubs, and if you really want to live it up, take that car and head for Nice, St. Tropez or Cannes. You want nightlife? Here it is!!!

There is much to enjoy outdoors in this great area. The Gorges De L’Ardeche, sitting above Avignon, offers sailing, canoeing, fishing, climbing, horse riding, cycling, walking, beaches, caving, and makes a great day out for all members of the family. The Luberon National Park is another great open expanse with forests, mountain scenery, trails and walking that would suit all parties wanting to explore the fascinating and diverse scenery that makes up Provence. Hire bikes, take a canoe, a packed lunch and some mineral water, and enjoy a great day out in great scenery with friends and family.

Shop in local style

The historic towns of Aix en Provence, Uzes and Bagnols sur Ceze not only offer history, but great shopping as well. The local bargains in these towns to be snapped up are perfumes, soaps and eaux de toilettes all crafted in part from the local lavender, famous in the region, and of course the local wine, plentiful and good value. The local markets, especially in these towns, offer a rich variety of local produce, from fresh garlic, peppers and courgettes, to flowers, nougat (remember that Montelimar is not far away) and freshly pressed olive oil of all colours, hues and varieties.

No trip to Provence would be complete without enjoying some of the wonderful wines that are to be found in this region. Our villas are within easy reach of some of the most famous vineyards in the world, so as a must do visit Chateauneuf de Pape, now world famous. Also try the Cotes du Rhone, offering great value and quality at a reasonable price. Stop off at any of the vineyards on your journey through Provence and take a wine tour, and be surprised at the history of wine and the region that you weren’t aware of.

Visit Chateau Neuf de Pape, one of the most famous wine regions in the world, and take home famous and fantastic wine.

Visit the Gorges De L’Ardeche for an adventure day out, where you can cycle, walk, sail, sunbathe on beaches, go canyoning and many other exciting outdoor activities.

Head out early one day to the Cote D’Azur, pick a seafront bar in any of its famous towns such as Cannes, Nice, St. Tropez or Antibes, have a glass of champagne and watch the world go by, and perhaps see a film star or two!

Spend half a day in the historic and beautiful town of Aix en Provence, with its fountains, restaurants, bars, shops and history of art. This is where Paul Cezanne lived.

Take a wine tour of the area, stopping off en route at any of the chateaux and vineyards with shops en route and sample some of the great local produce.
